In a landmark moment for the Ijaw diaspora in America, the Ijaw National Congress USA Chapter held its historic inaugural meeting in Houston, Texas, on May 29, 2026 marking the formal establishment of the organization’s operational framework.
Chairman Bishop (Dr.) Ayibakuro Suobite described the gathering as “a defining moment in the history of the Ijaw people in the United States of America.” The meeting featured the formal presentation of the INC Constitution and Bylaws to the Board of Trustees.
“This is not just another meeting,” Dr. Suobite declared. “This is the birth of a strategic platform for advancing the interests, welfare, cultural identity, and global visibility of the Ijaw nation from the heart of America.”
Key outcomes included the ratification of the Constitution, establishment of standing committees, and a roadmap for the chapter’s first year of operations, including plans for the annual Ijaw Day celebration and preparations for the 2027 INC Global Convention.
